Unfortunately, the actual act of emancipating the slaves in America was not as simple as that. The time after the war and the way the slaves were treated then carried on and ultimately lead to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Americans at the time, both black and white, disagreed on the issue of emancipation at the time. The emancipation of African Americans was an issue that effected all Americans: white, black, men, women, northerners, and southerners.
